What To Expect

The final product will be two distinct products, with the 250+ page setting guide and the 100+ page three-part Adventure Path described above. Following the successful funding of this Kickstarter, we intend to fulfill delivery of both our digital and physical products over a three-four month period.

Each of these Setting Guides & Adventures is designed to be easily baked into your world lore and game system, allowing you to quickly introduce our locales and NPCs into your world. Whether you're taking just a few locations or embedding whole cities into your world, our motto is simple;

"Take What Works, Leave What Doesn't!"

The multi-book Setting Guide & Multi-Adventure Series for the ‘City of Glass’ will be live on Kickstarter on:

What is

Calamity Punk Publishing?

OUR STORY

I’m Mike, the Creative Director at Calamity Punk Publishing. I’m also the guy who has made sharing my homebrew world of Cealla my life’s work. Looking back, I think it started the day I finished my first novel (which was of course terrible) and realized I was having more fun worldbuilding than telling the story I’d started out with. It was that same week that I remember my brothers approaching me to play D&D together, in the hopes that I would try my hand at GMing for them, even though I’d never really done it before. The problem was, I didn't know anything about the standard D&D lore, and barely understood the rules this early on in my budding GM journey. I didn’t know where to start with learning about the world, especially with several players who I felt already knew EVERYTHING there was to know about the setting. With my vanity and hubris at an all time high, I turned to homebrewing my own world, based on the one I’d developed in my first novel. This idea consumed me, in part because I’d now become obsessed with the process of worldbuilding & learning about other’s homemade worlds. This also helped limit my anxiety about running my first D&D game, because if I made the lore, then I would of course have all the answers! (How naive I was, I know.)

Over the last decade I’ve run several long-term campaigns, continuing to build out the big things like a pantheon and cross regional political conflicts, to the dueling sausage shops in a bustling marketplace. I’d gotten to the point where I felt like there wasn’t a city I hadn’t explored, or a monster I couldn’t design, or an encounter I couldn’t touch-up or improve on. I’d even inspired a few new players to try their hand at homebrewing, “lending out” some of my stories and characters to them as well as my fellow DM’s, helping adapt my content for their worlds. Throughout all of this, I couldn't help but think back to how I’d first started, and the flexible, modular content I would have loved that felt both personal & approachable. That thought quickly planted a seed, and after years of GMing and worldbuilding, I’m ready to share my passion and stories with others who share that same spark for adventure. This brand exists for folks like me—eager to bring their worlds to life with tools that make storytelling unforgettable.

Our Team

For all of my naivety starting out, it was this choice to begin publishing my work that would finally connect my love of worlds on the brink of calamity with a desire to tell more tailored and interactive stories. Over the last year since we started, this project has morphed from me scribbling random lore into notebooks while at work into a small team of friends who probably love Cealla a bit too much. We’re a happy mix of writers, artists, designers and marketing folks who love being a part of the indie game development scene. In addition, we're also very lucky to have a close group of friends, players, and play testers who are always willing to help by venturing into the wilds of untested dungeons and newly built monsters that we’ve been working on day in and day out. I wouldn’t be able to be as obsessed, or make anything look good (graphic design is not my strong suit I apologize) without all of the help I get every single day.

Our Credo

PASSION.

We do this because we love it. Each single member of our team is part of Calamity Punk because it aligns with their own passions and interests. Our work is fortified with authenticity, excitement, and a deep respect for the worlds we help create.

Since deciding that I wanted to start publishing the lore and stories of Cealla, passion has been at the heart of this whole endeavor. I joke with friends often that I’ll be worldbuilding Cealla and GMing games in the retirement home, and most of my colleagues have caught me at one point or another filling a notebook with random thoughts or lore bits while in meetings or on the road. I am well and truly obsessed with not only making content for Cealla, but sharing it with any and everyone. If what I write inspires even one person to try their hand at GMing, worldbuilding, or just evolving the world we’ve built a bit more, then I’d consider all of this a resounding success.

PUNK.

At Calamity Punk Publishing, we don’t follow the rules—we write them. Our content thrives on the edge of creativity, pushing boundaries to deliver immersive, modular stories that dare to look at the bigger picture.

The idea of ‘Calamity Punk’ came out of a joke I made about the world of Cealla, and the inspirations it took from games like Twilight Princess and Final Fantasy X. There were touches of steampunk, crystalpunk, and even cyberpunk leaking into a particular campaign when I stated that this particular concoction could only be described as "calamitypunk”. I realized then I’d unintentionally landed on something that perfectly described the aesthetic I loved so much, and the one I was keen on building. This revelation, coupled with a childhood that was guided by bands like the Dead Kennedys, Bad Brains, Violent Femmes, Against Me!, is what makes thee “punk” concept near and dear to my heart & writing.

MODULARITY.

Every piece of content from Calamity Punk Publishing is designed to fit your model. With built-in options for personalized customization, our content makes it effortless to plug and play, enriching your narrative at any stage - whether you are running your first or tenth campaign or starting at session 0 or 99.

One of the things I fell in love with most about D&D was the idea that every table has it’s own world, and once players start interacting with the setting it evolves into something more than just words on paper. It’s in that moment our work gets to become something intimately human; it becomes a story we tell each other, and one that grows and shifts with each retelling. A lot of our products contain the motto “Take what works, leave what doesn’t” because I feel that’s exactly how everyone should feel using our stuff. I love every city, town, and NPC a bit too much, but I love the idea of others taking, reshaping, and reimagining our content to fit their games!
